How to Get Your Research Out

Finding ways to disseminate your research is one of the most important steps you can take to position yourself for an academic career. Publishing in academic journals and delivering conference presentations are two longstanding and important ways of sharing your research, but less traditional approaches are also growing in importance. This panel will share insights on some of the varied methods academics use to share their research and provide advice on ways graduate students can start to develop a public research profile.

Applications for academic positions may involve many additional components beyond the traditional CV and cover letter. It can be difficult to know how to use these materials strategically, or even know what to include. This workshop will prepare applicants to understand how hiring committees use these documents and develop techniques for highlighting their potential as teachers and researchers.

The academic CV and cover letter are essential documents for positioning yourself as a strong job candidate. They give you the opportunity to both highlight your achievements as a scholar and show why you are a good fit with the institution you are applying to. This workshop will be co-hosted by the Career Planning Service, and the McGill Writing Centre in order to provide you with strategies and advice on how to make the most of your academic job application.
