Update on negotiations with AMUSE (casual employees)

Published: 23 September 2016

The parties met on September 12 and 14 in the presence of the conciliator appointed by the ministère du Travail.

The employer presented the French version of a dozen articles which had been approved in English by both parties. All of these articles – except for one where the employer suggested a minor change – were ratified. The parties also discussed the content of articles on grievance procedure, on the conditions governing access to an employee’s personnel file and on the payment of salaries. Parties agreed on these and the English version of these articles was ratified. Parties also discussed position postings and granting of assignments, as well as the conditions related to the union office allocation. They did not reach an agreement on these elements. Though not discussed at this meeting, the granting of a McGill ID card and associated privileges to all its members remains a priority for the union.

At the next meeting, the union tabled its monetary demands and answered questions related to these demands from the University’s negotiation committee. The University committed to assessing the financial impact of these demands and to present this assessment at the next meeting, to help further advance the discussions.

The next conciliation meeting is set for October 14.

This update is meant to inform the community about ongoing negotiations and has been validated by the union.
