A hub for entrepreneurship
The Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship is the hub of entrepreneurship at the University, working with over 12 faculties to offer high quality programs to startups at every juncture of their growth, from idea to investment-readiness. With over 470 active startups, the Centre has supported the creation of over 8,000 jobs since 1988. The startups it has supported have now raised more than $3.7 billion in seed funding.

Experiential learning and case competitions
At McGill Desautels we ensure an outstanding learning experience for all students through high-impact programs that provide access to experiential learning and build foundational skills in critical and creative thinking and problem-solving. McGill Desautels undergraduate and graduate students hone their skills in critical and creative thinking and problem solving by participating in international case competitions such as the McGill International Portfolio Challenge (MIPC) and Retail Innovation Challenge.

As one of Canada's leading research-intensive universities, McGill University has been a member of the Association of American Universities since 1926, an organisation comprising the top North American research universities. In alignment with McGill’s reputation, McGill Desautels enjoys global recognition for its innovative management research. Our professors secure more government funding for research than the national average and publish in some of the most high-profile business journals. The Desautels 22, a compendium of the articles, books and monographs produced by our faculty members is a testament to the breadth of our faculty’s output.
McGill Desautels faculty members take part in multidisciplinary research projects through the cutting-edge retail innovation lab. Our researchers also figure prominently in the federally funded Innovation Superclusters Initiative notably the Bensadoun Retail School of Retail Management and the McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics (MCCHE).
Growing ambitions
With renovated and expanded facilities located in the heart of downtown Montreal, including the Donald E. Armstrong Building which opened in 2018, McGill Desautels is a home away from home for our students and faculty members.
In 2021, the Bensadoun School of Retail Management opened the retail innovation lab in the Bronfman Building to develop and test innovations in a laboratory store fitted with state-of-the-art technology.
In 2019, the Faculty launched the free online McGill Personal Finance Essentials, in collaboration with RBC Future Launch and The Globe and Mail. This bilingual course is open to all Canadians.
A focus on sustainability
The Faculty is a member of the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative.
Our degree programs and courses in sustainability have been recognized for their innovative design, and the research interests of many of our faculty members focus on the economic, environmental, and social impacts of conducting business.
In 2021, researchers at the McGill Sustainability Systems Initiative launched a platform called PIVOT to empower members of the Canadian business community to be more sustainable.
In 2020, our BCom program ranked 4th in Canada and our MBA ranked 14th globally by the Corporate Knights’ Better World rankings for addressing sustainable development and corporate social responsibility through teaching, research and practice
In 2019, the Desautels Sustainability Network received the Catalyst Award for Connectivity, Governance & Administration—the highest recognition at McGill for leadership in sustainability.
