For new and returning students you must be registered for at least one course for a minimum of 24 hours in order to confirm your contract on Minerva.

Exchange students who require a reassessment of the international health insurance fee, must confirm their coverage on Minerva. See more details here. Students who meet certain criteria may be eligible for an exemption. Please note that, students covered by private health insurance are not exempt from the McGill plan.

To confirm your coverage:

Access Minerva ⇒ Student⇒ International Student Health Insurance Coverage Form and select Confirm coverage from the drop-down menu.

  • As of August 15 for returning and newly-admitted students in the Fall semester.
  • As of December 15 for newly-admitted students in the Winter semester*
  • As of April 15 for newly-admitted students in the Summer semester.

Doing this will allow you to pick up your health insurance card upon arrival at Service Point Downtown campus or Student Services at Macdonald campus.

Dental Plan

Undergraduate international students are automatically covered by the SSMU Dental Plan or, for students enrolled in a program at the Macdonald Campus, the MCSS Dental Plan. Graduate international students have the PGSS Dental plan. Students wishing to opt out of the dental plan may do so at ihaveaplan.ca. International Student Services is not involved in the administration of Student Societies dental plans.

*Please note, students entering the University in the Winter semester are not automatically covered by their student society's Dental Plan, and must opt-in if they wish to be. For opt-in procedures, please visit ihaveaplan.ca.
