Mentors

Please note that the Mentoring Across McGill program is currently on hiatus and is not accepting mentor applications at this time.

 Before you Sign Up...

  1. Take a moment to scan the Mentoring Guidelines and Commitment and the First Meeting Checklist, so you can get a sense of what being a Mentor entails.
  2. Consider whether there is any additional information that you would like to include about yourself to help us assign a Mentee for you. There is an appropriate space for this on the Faculty/Staff and Graduate Student Mentor Application Forms. This information will remain confidential. We ask because potential Mentees may ask us to  take into account, if possible, certain factors when assigning a Mentor. These may include, but are not limited to, gender, sexual orientation, race and ethnic identity, religion, First Nations, Inuit or Métis identity, ability, and socioeconomic situation.
  3. As you know, McGill has a variety of services for students, including ones that provide academic advising, tutoring, career advice, counselling, healthcare, and assistance with University dispute resolution.  Although discussions of these topics can be part of the mentoring relationship, a mentorship cannot replace any of these services (e.g., essay proofreading, medical note writing, dispute intervention, etc). Links to useful McGill services for students are available here.
