Welcome

The year 2013 is an important milestone for McGill University’s School of Communication Sciences and Disorders. As the “SCSD” turns 50, we have much to celebrate.

In the last half century, we have evolved from a small professional training unit with only a handful of students (and professors!) to one with over 80 graduate and postdoctoral students and 13 full-time academic staff. We have earned a strong reputation for the high quality of our students and the professional education we provide, and have become known as one of the world’ leading research units devoted to the study of human communication and its disorders. It is exciting to contemplate what the next 50 years will bring…

But for now, it is the time to reflect on our purpose and on what we have achieved, and to reconnect with those who have made our School what it is today. We are planning a number of activities for our anniversary year and hope that you will watch this space for future updates on events and opportunities to get involved. We are designing a new logo for the School, are planning a “video contest” for past members and SCSD alumni to share their memories of the School and Beatty Hall, and we will cap off the year with a two-day conference in late October, organized by Dr. Karsten Steinhauer, focusing on “Multilingualism” with a public lecture for the Montreal community.

An exhibit of current SCSD research, new clinical initiatives, a workshop and lecture designed for our clinical educators and students, and social events are also in the works. We hope you will get involved!
